She had an incredible professional life but her personal life went saw many ups and downs. She got married Urdu poet and lyricist Gulzar in 1973. But their marriage did not last long. They got separated in 1974. However, this did not break Rakhee’s strength.
She is 77 today and even now she lives her life on her own terms. She lives alone but never got scared to face life. She had once revealed in an interview that she does not need money anymore. She does her work on her own and lives a happy life with animals.
Rakhee has always been an animal lover and has several domestic animals, including dogs, cows, and birds, at her farmhouse in Panvel.
Talking about her professional life, she has worked with several superstars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Dharmendra. She has also worked with Amitabh Bachchan who once turned down a film with her. Yash Chopra wanted Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor and Rakhee together in Kabhi Kabhie.
Big B rejected the movie because he had to romance Rakhee. Rakhee Gulzar and Amitabh Bachchan are close to each other. Big B lovingly called her ‘didi’ while she called him ‘Lambu’. Hence, it was difficult for him to romance Rakhee on the big screen.
