Meghan McCain is persona non grata at her TV alma mater.
After news broke that “The View,” is planning to invite past hosts back to celebrate their 30th anniversary next season, multiple sources tell Page Six they’d prefer to keep McCain away. Several said they would “be shocked” if brass even extended an invite “given the way she treated people.”
“She’s the most horrible, biggest pain in the ass,” they told us, referring to behavior on-camera and behind the scenes. One source claimed she once hurled an F bomb at the executive producer in front of their studio audience. “She’s a nut bag!” they added.
McCain’s petulant outbursts were well documented during her time on the show. Moderator Whoopi Goldberg became so visibly fed up with her once during a debate that she scolded, “Girl, please stop talking!” Meanwhile, Joy Behar didn’t mince words when McCain joked about her missing her when she returned from maternity leave after being away for three months. Behar bluntly told her, “I did not miss you. Zero!”
And it appears that remains the case among staffers since she exited the show permanently in 2021.
“Forget about how she treated her co-hosts. It’s less about that and more about how she treated the staff,” another source said. “She would even scream across the stage, ‘Do you know who I am?” alleging the late Sen. John McCain’s daughter would often remind people “who my father is.”
There’s no love lost on McCain’s part. In 2021, she blasted the show’s “toxic work environment” in an excerpt she published in her audio memoir, “Bad Republican.” She further revealed the reason she quit the show was because she felt mistreated for having conservative values. She also shared that she had experienced postpartum anxiety after welcoming her first child and returning to the show.
“As I was dealing with my own emotions, I couldn’t also navigate the idea that I was hated and felt hated at a toxic work environment,” she said in the excerpt published by Variety at the time.
McCain’s criticism of the show – and her co-hosts – became more pronounced since she referred to them as “the most talented women on all of televison” during her exit speech in 2021. In fact, those days are long gone. She slammed Goldberg, Behar, Sara Haines, Anna Navarro, Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farrah Griffin as “sh–ty” when they sat down with Vice President J.D. Vance in June.
“My biggest takeaway from Vance on ‘The View’ is honestly how s–tty and undisciplined the hosts STILL ARE,” McCain wrote via X.
“After all these years they still get basics [sic] facts wrong, flub easy questions and can’t get through a segment without yelling at each other,” she wrote.
Her former on-air colleagues and reps for the show consistently ignore her attacks.
While there are cries to keep her away from the 30th anniversary programming, McCain should still keep hope alive in case she wants to bring the awkward back to “Hot Topics.” The show’s executive producer, Brian Teta, confirmed via X that “lots of plans are in the works, but no invites have gone out.”
McCain and a spokesperson for “The View” did not comment.
