“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” landed in the No. 1 spot on Friday, two days after its release.
The animated sequel to the 2023 original film based on the popular Nintendo game earned a bunch of gold coins — raking in $48.3 million on Friday, according to Box Office Mojo.
The Post predicted the flick — which has Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black and Keegan-Michael Key reprising their roles — “will make $1 billion just like its awful predecessor.”
After being in first place for two weeks in a row, “Project Hail Mary” moved down a notch to second, with sales of over $10.3 million.
The sci-fi adventure has become Amazon MGM’s highest-grossing movie of all time and the largest-earning movie of this year to date.
“The Drama” came in third with just over $6.4 million in revenue.
The rom-com-drama, which The Post called “gripping and sometimes stomach-churning,” stars Robert Pattinson and Zendaya as a museum director and bookseller who get engaged and then learn secrets about one another.
Pixar’s “Hoppers” moved down two spots to fourth on its fifth Friday in theaters with a $2.1 million take.
The historical drama “A Great Awakening,” which chronicles the friendship between Anglican preacher George Whitefield and Benjamin Franklin, was in fifth, with $886,921 in earnings.
