It seems as 2024 has turned out to be a notable year for Indian cinema. Audiences were hooked to the screens with blockbuster films like Stree 2, Pushpa 2: The Rule and Kalki 2898 AD. Pushpa 2: The Rule and Kalki 2898 AD has successfully surpassed Rs 1,000 crore mark worldwide. Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao starrer Stree 2 has emerged as the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2024 and managed to collect Rs 850 crore globally. One such South Indian film outperformed other films and emerged as India’s most profitable film of 2024. This film was made on a budget of Rs 3 crore and had no major stars in it.
As per reports of Hindustan Times, the Malayalam movie Premalu is India’s most profitable film of 2024. The film is directed by Girish AD and Premalu is a coming-of-age romantic drama. The film revolves around a young man named Sachin who navigates a complicated love triangle in his quest for true love. The film stars Naslen K Gafoor, Mamitha Baiju, Sangeeth Prathap, Akhila Bhargavan, Shyam Mohan, and Meenakshi Raveendran, among others in pivotal roles.
According to Hindustan Times, the film did 45 times its production budget. The film was made on a budget of Rs 3 crore and managed to collect Rs 136 crore worldwide. Pramlu became the highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2024. Premalu was made on a small budget. Prabhas and Deepika Padukone starrer Kalki 2898 AD was made on a budget of Rs 600 crore. Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule was made on a budget of Rs 350 crore, while Stree 2 earned ten times its budget and collected Rs 850 crore.
