Teen Mom star Jenelle Evans has spoken out after her 16-year-old son Jace allegedly pulled a gun on his grandmother before he was committed to a mental health hospital.

According to TMZ, Evans’s mother, Barbara Evans, made a 911 call from her home in North Carolina to have her grandson committed on an involuntary basis amid claims he had put a handgun to his head and threatened to kill himself and his grandmother.

In a statement to the Daily Mail, a representative said: ‘The son is receiving the help he needs, and Jenelle has been dedicated to finding the best treatment and the right place to support his progress.

‘Her commitment and persistence in seeking the most effective care show how deeply she cares about her son’s well-being and future.’

They added: ‘At this time, we respectfully ask for privacy for the family and Jenelle Evans.

‘This is a personal matter, and space and understanding are appreciated as they focus on their well-being and time together,’ they continued. ‘Thank you for respecting their privacy during this time.’

According to TMZ, sources with knowledge of the situation said Evans’s mother made a call to 911 on February 27.

They also claimed that Barbara alerted her daughter to her plans to file paperwork in court to help her with Jace, who has been living with his grandmother while Jenelle lives in Las Vegas with her other children.

On Monday, TMZ reported that sources described the 911 call from Barbara’s home as being about a ‘troubled teen disturbance.’

The publication claimed that a police report indicated that seven officers reported to the home in response to the call.

Evans took to X on Tuesday to slam her family members, writing: ‘Whoever thought the enemy is my own mother, sad AF. And to think the empathy I had for her all these months because of her health.’

A representative for Evans said in a statement to TMZ: ‘At this time, we have no comment on the matter. We’re unable to discuss this issue because it involves confidential personal matters.’

There’s no word yet on how long Evans’s teen son will allegedly be staying at the mental health facility or receiving treatment.

TMZ previously reported on Tuesday that sources close to the situation said that Jace had put a handgun up to his head and threatened to kill both himself and his grandmother; Evans is pictured in June 2025 in NYC

TMZ reported that sources close to the family say the focus right now is on his health and stability.

The alleged disturbance comes months after Evans’s mother Barbara, whom Jace has been living with since last year, was hospitalized in October due to a stroke.

However, Evans’s mother was discharged shortly after the incident and was able to recuperate at home.

According to the publication, it’s unclear how long Jace will be under professional care.

Evans publicly feuded with her own son last year after he shared a text message exchange depicting a fiery conflict between the two.

‘I am finally putting out how my mother really is,’ Jace said in a social media post from August, followed by a text exchange in which he complained about his living situation and called his mother ‘crazy.’

In the posted messages, Jace said to his mother, ‘I don’t need you, you don’t need me and I don’t understand why ur doing this just because I’m telling you the truth, ur crazy.’

The 16 and Pregnant alumna replied, ‘[You’re] the one saying you’re going to have my custody taken. F*** YOU.’

The text messages also included references to Evans’s ex-husband David Eason, as she claimed Jace lied when he said Eason had tried to strangle him.

Jace replied he ‘never lied,’ and he said that Eason had indeed ‘tried to’ physically assault him.

Shortly after the exchange was posted, Evans posted a lengthy response via her Instagram Stories, telling her 3.1 million followers that it had been challenging parenting her firstborn child as he deals with legal and health issues.

‘My children are my whole world,’ she said. ‘And everything I do is to try to protect, guide and love them. Like any parent, I set rules and boundaries … and sometimes that isn’t easy.

‘Jace posting our private texts was his reaction to being rightfully disciplined and while it hurts to see those moments shared publicly, I know it comes from a place of struggle.’

Jenelle said she hopes fans can empathize with the difficult family situation she finds herself in and vowed to stand by her son.

‘Navigating Jace’s different [medical conditions] has not been easy but I have never stopped fighting to make sure he has the resources, love and support he needs,’ Evans said. ‘I will always stand by him, no matter what challenges come our way and I will continue to work on being the best mom I can be to all three of my kids.’

She asked the public for ’empathy, kindness, and prayers during this time,’ adding, ‘not just for me, but for Jace and our family as we work through this together.’

She said her eldest child has dealt with legal issues and urged the public to go easy on him

In February 2024, Evans filed for separation from husband David Eason, six years after they were married; pictured together in 2017 in Inglewood, Calif.

Evans continued: ‘Recently, he’s also been in trouble with the law these past few months and is having a hard time adjusting to the rules set before him.

‘I’ve been trying to help him navigate it, but we are butting heads in the process.’

Jenelle ended her emotional statement by saying, ‘Please give him grace at this time … this is hard on all of us,’ adding emojis of a crying face, a broken heart and prayer hands.

The Teen Mom 2 personality welcomed Jace with her ex-boyfriend Andrew Lewis in August of 2009.

Evans is also the mother of 11-year-old Kaiser Orion Griffith, whom she shares with her ex-boyfriend Nathan Griffith, and her daughter Ensley Jolie Eason, eight, whom she had with her ex-husband, Eason.

Eason was infamously fired by MTV in 2018 for homophobic and transphobic tweets, and the cable network subsequently fired Evans in 2019 — after nine seasons of Teen Mom 2 — shortly after her then-husband shot and killed their French Bulldog, Nugget.

After Evans initially called the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office to report that her husband had shot and killed the dog, she subsequently claimed that she had not seen the shooting or seen any evidence that the dog was actually dead.

That got police to end the investigation into the killing, only for Eason to admit months later that he had shot and killed the tiny dog.

At the time, he claimed it had bitten their daughter Ensley, who was two at the time.

Audiences were first introduced to Evans in 2010, when she appeared in the second season of the MTV reality show, 16 and Pregnant.
