Taylor Swift stopped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Wednesday night ahead of the release of her new Disney+ docuseries, The End of an Era.
“This is the first time we’ve had a chance to sit down and chat. Hey Taylor, “ Colbert told the singer, noting that she did a bit on the show a few years back but this is was their first official sit down. “Hey Steven,” Swift replied back.
I imagine this is what felt like when The Beatles came into the Ed Sullivan Theater in 1964,” Colbert told Swift and the crowd. Swift recalled moments from the Eras tour, telling Colbert the moment she realized that the tour was something other than her normal tours. “The entire tour, there were these just sort of out of control, out of body experiences we would have on stage,” the singer said.
“Most of my band has been with me since I was 16 years old, and we [would] just kind of look at each other and be like, this isn’t normal. It’s not normal,” Swift said, adding that it was “special” and “phenomenal feeling” being on the tour every night. “I’m really glad we get to relive it.”
Colbert asked Swift to pick her top five songs from her catalog. The singer told Colbert that it takes time to digest her own music, but she did share a few choices with the viewers.
Unsurprisingly, Swift’s No. 1 pick is “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)” from her Taylor’s Version release of Red. The lengthy version of the song had a cult-like following before it was ever released, as it was something Swift brought up throughout the years. She said she’s so into her latest album, Life of a Showgirl, that should couldn’t really choose five songs. Swift did note that somewhere in the top five is “Mirrorball” from Swift’s pandemic-era album, Folklore.
“We can do an update at some point. If I have some time to look back,” Swift told the host. Colbert cheekily responded with, “You have all the time between now and May,” a nod to the fact his show is ending after this season.
The Life of a Showgirl singer most recently hit the late-night circuit for her 12th album, speaking with Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon. Two episodes from Swift’s six-part docuseries, The End of an Era, along with the concert film, Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The Final Show, drop on Disney+ Friday (Dec. 12).
