The idea hit her when she took a seat next to a slew of celebrities on Graham Norton’s red sofa.
Why not invite them all – Norton included – to star alongside her in the music video for her new single?
So it was that Taylor Swift’s video for Opalite was born.
All six of the invitees – including Oppenheimer’s Cillian Murphy, Harry Potter star Domhnall Gleeson and pop singer Lewis Capaldi – said yes.
Released yesterday, the Nineties-themed video stars Gleeson, 42, as the love interest for 36-year-old Swift’s character.
The storyline initially follows their surreal relationships – Gleeson with a cactus and Swift with a rock – before the two meet with the help of a ‘magical’ spray bottle labelled Opalite.
Norton, 62, appears in a scene promoting another spray, while Murphy, 49, is pictured in an advert for Opalite.
Capaldi, 29, plays a photographer, while actresses Greta Lee, 42, and Jodie Turner-Smith, 39, are seen on retro TV screens.

‘When we were all talking during the broadcast, Domhnall made a light-hearted joke about wanting to be in one of my music videos,’ she wrote on Friday.
‘He’s Irish! He was joking! Except that in that moment during the interview, I was instantly struck with an idea.’
