Madonna donned the original jacquard jacket from her big-screen debut Desperately Seeking Susan on the 40th anniversary of the cult classic’s release in theaters while attending a fashion show benefit on Saturday.
The 66-year-old Queen of Pop was reportedly ‘not a fan’ of the 1950s cropped tuxedo jacket by costume designer Santo Loquasto, which caused the mistaken identity that is central to the film’s entire plot.
‘I’m going to exploit your [sense of style] totally because we’re all fascinated by it and you’re comfortable with it,’ Loquasto recalled telling Madonna in a CNN interview last week.
‘I would shake a baggie of jewelry onto her couch in the trailer and say, “I’ll be back in an hour, have a ball.” And she would go at it.’
The back of the archival costume piece is emblazoned with a gold lamé pyramid, the Roman numerals for 1776, and the Latin phrase ‘Novus ordo seclorum’ translating to ‘The new order is dispatched.’
In 2016, the Desperately Seeking Susan jacket was sold for $87,500 through Julien’s Auctions.

Madonna celebrated the movie milestone by attending Mother-Daughter-Holy Spirit, a three-part fundraiser for the Trans Justice Funding Project, held at One and One in Manhattan’s Lower East Side.

Madonna also recently reunited with Julia Garner – who’s set to play her in the movie – at her 17th annual post-Oscars bash held at her manager Guy Oseary’s LA home on March 2.
The Raising Malawi co-founder hasn’t given an update on the film, shelved by Universal in 2023, since last July when she revealed she and screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson were rewriting the script.

And Madonna isn’t just feeling nostalgic over past glory as she is ‘putting my heart and soul into my new music’ for an upcoming sequel to her 2005 dance album, Confessions on a Dance Floor, with musical director Stuart Price.
The Evita alum – who still averages 38.4M monthly listeners on Spotify – impressively concluded her $225.3M-grossing, 81-date Celebration Tour on May 4.
