In over three decades that Sunny Deol has spent in the showbiz industry, he has garnered immense popularity and recognition for his versatility as an actor. He isn’t just known for his intense and powerful performances, but also his strong onscreen presence. Majority of his films, including Border, Gadar, and Indian, carry strong patriotic themes that are an instant hit with Indian audiences. While promoting his upcoming film Jaat, Sunny was asked if he is keen on playing characters similar to what were seen in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, which had also roped in younger brother, Bobby Deol. For the unversed, he played a negative role along with Ranbir Kapoor.
During the promotional event of Jaat, Sunny Deol said he’d never show any qualms in taking up such similar roles. He replied, “I’d love to play that role as an actor. I wouldn’t call it negative; I’d call it a character, and I’d definitely love to do that. I wouldn’t say no to it. But the director and the producer need to have the guts to cast me in something like that. They believe that audiences won’t accept me in such a role, and that’s where I get stuck.”
In an old interview, Sunny had reacted to Animal, specifically a sequence where Bobby’s character, Abrar Haq, is thrashed by Ranbir Kapoor’s character, Ranvijay Singh. Sunny explained why he couldn’t watch it. “I watched it… Animal is a great film, a nice film. People are loving it. I’ll always have my own take on any film, even my own. That’s just me, and it won’t change. But I’m not going to talk about that… When I saw Bobby being killed, I just got up and walked out. I couldn’t take it. I just wanted to go out and do something,” he had told in a previous interview to NDTV.
