Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man 4 is going to take slightly longer to swing into theaters.
Sony Pictures announced Friday that the Marvel superhero’s next feature will now hit theaters July 31, a week later than previously scheduled. Filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton is helming the movie that is currently untitled.
This change now gives the project extra distance from the release of director Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which also stars Holland and hits theaters July 16 from Universal. Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron round out the star-studded cast of the feature adaptation of Homer’s epic poem.
Holland was last seen onscreen as the heroic web-slinger in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. That film was helmed by Jon Watts, who also directed Holland in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019).
Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna penned the new Spider-Man film after previously writing No Way Home.
Disney’s Captain America: Brave New World hit theaters earlier this month as the latest feature in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sony, which owns the rights to Spider-Man, arranged a partnership with Disney in 2015 to allow the popular character to join the MCU.
Up next for Marvel fans is The Fantastic Four: First Steps, hitting theaters July 25 from Disney. Next year brings the planned release of Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to feature Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
Late last year, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Holland is attached to star alongside Austin Butler in the crime feature American Speed for Amazon MGM Studios.
