A few members of the Saturday Night Live studio audience got a little too enthusiastic during a “Weekend Update” segment.
Castmember Ego Nwodim appeared during the news segment to pitch herself as the comedian to perform at the White House Correspondents Association dinner, playing off the news that the group uninvited Amber Ruffin to perform at the April 26 dinner. After “Update” co-anchor Colin Jost noted that the WHCA didn’t want a bunch of political jokes, Nwodim responded that “that’s because every year a comedian gets up there talking trash about the White House, about the media. But no one’s ever just made fun of the dinner.”
With that, Nwodim debuted “Ms. Eggy,” her stand-up persona, coming in front of the “Update” anchor desk to let fly with a series of jokes about food, men and sex. She also did some crowd work, saying at one point, “This is Ms. Eggy, and Ms. Eggy don’t …” to which a few members of the audience shouted “play!”
Her next attempt is where things went sideways. “Cory Booker out here with his filibuster — shoot, I’ve had my fill of busters. ’Cause these men ain’t what?” Nwodim/Ms. Eggy said, holding her mic out to the crowd. In the live broadcast, the audience was bleeped, but it sounded like at least a couple people shouted “shit” in response to her question. The response was muted completely during a rebroadcast and on the version posted on YouTube. Watch the segment below and note the conspicuous silence at the 3:15 mark.
Nwodim took the outburst like a pro: “We finna get fined for that,” she said, noting that the correct response was “worth a damn.” “Y’all gonna have to pay for that. Lorne’s gonna be mad at y’all.”
Jack Black hosted the April 5 SNL, which featured a return appearance by Mike Myers as Elon Musk and poked fun at President Donald Trump’s recently announced tariffs and Morgan Wallen’s abrupt exit from the show a week earlier.
