A star of one of the most beloved sitcoms of the 2010s had undergone a dramatic physical transformation when he was spotted this week.
The 47-year-old was on a hit comedy series that ran on Fox from 2011 to 2018, then lent his talents to playing one of Hollywood’s most iconic superheroes.
He has acted in a variety of franchise tentpoles, including the first Jurassic World in 2015 and the 2017 The Mummy reboot led by Tom Cruise.
When he was spotted this week, he was hard at work filming a new comedy pilot for NBC in which he will star as a private detective.
Although he had a lean build on his star-making series, he cut a beefier figure in a clinging white tank top on the set of his upcoming project.

He is none other than Jake Johnson, beloved to New Girl fans as Nick Miller, one of the three male roommates of Zooey Deschanel’s lead character Jess Day.
New Girl made Deschanel a household name for her quirky persona, which previously won her recognition in the 2009 romantic comedy 500 Days of Summer.
At the start of the show, Jess moves in with three men – Schmidt (Max Greenfield), Winston (Lamorne Morris) and Johnson’s character Nick.
Over the course of the series, Jess and Nick become love interests in the will-they-won’t-they vein identified with Ross and Rachel on Friends.
New Girl ended after seven seasons in 2018, the same year Johnson’s voice was featured as that of one of many Spider-Men in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Mickey is now a ‘private investigator with a knack for solving cases,’ and personality-wise is ‘smart, cynical and heartbroken, but trying to pretend he’s not.’

His boss Garner Taggert will be played by Keith David, 69, who has acted in films ranging from There’s Something About Mary to Armageddon to Requiem for a Dream.
Meanwhile the PI agency’s ‘flagrantly disinterested receptionist’ will be portrayed by actress Mary Shalaby, it was announced Wednesday in Variety.
Currently untitled, the pilot was written by a brace of Brooklyn Nine-Nine veterans – Dan Goor, who co-created the beloved series, and Luke Del Tredici, who wrote for it.
On the personal front, Johnson has been married to artist Erin Payne since 2006 and they welcomed their twin girls Elizabeth and Olivia in 2014.
