The iconic “Maggie May” singer, Sir Rod Stewart, recently celebrated his milestone 80th birthday in grand style. The festivities included an opulent family getaway aboard a super yacht in the Caribbean.
There was also a heartfelt message to his fans on Instagram, plus a touching tribute from his wife, Penny Lancaster.
Sir Rod Stewart turns 80
Marking his birthday on January 10, Stewart took to Instagram to thank his 1.5 million followers for their unwavering support throughout his decades-long career. In his post, Stewart wrote: “May I take this opportunity on this my 80th birthday to personally express my gratitude and thanks to all my loyal and rowdy fans all over the world, for helping give me such a wonderful life!” He reassured fans that his career is far from over, adding, “I’ve not finished yet x.”
Penny, Rod’s wife of 17 years, also celebrated the occasion with a touching Instagram post. “So blessed to be sharing this day together with all our kids. Building more memories to carry with us into the future and to be held close to our hearts forever,” she wrote.
The celebrations included a 10-day luxury family vacation aboard a superyacht in Barbados. Stewart was joined by his eight children, their partners, and his grandchildren.
According to the Daily Mail, Stewart spared no expense, flying his family first class to Florida before setting sail. “The holiday is costing Rod millions,” an insider revealed, describing the trip as a chance for the family to set aside past tensions and form closer bonds.
Rod Stewart’s health battles
Despite recent health challenges, including a bout with strep throat last year and a history of prostate and thyroid cancer, Stewart remains determined to enjoy life to the fullest. Speaking to The Sun last year, he acknowledged his mortality with characteristic candour: “We have all got to pass on at some point… I am going to be enjoying myself for these last few years as much as I can.” He optimistically added that he envisions “probably another 15” years of vibrant living.
Stewart, who recently extended his Las Vegas 13-year residency at Caesars Palace, continues to showcase his legendary work ethic. Lancaster previously described him as a “workaholic,” and the singer himself has said he has no plans to retire.
Fans and fellow celebrities showered the music icon with birthday wishes. Television presenter Davina McCall commented, “Thank you for all the joy and dancing!!! Hope you all have the BEST day.”
Rod Stewart continues to prove that age is just a number when it comes to living life to the fullest.
