Sholay The Final Cut Box Office Collection: Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra-led movie has been re-released in theatres on December 12. The 4K restored version has brought the original climax of the film, which was denied by the CBFC in 1975. The re-release of the magnum opus also marks the 50th year of the film’s director, Ramesh Sippy, in the Bollywood industry, which makes the movie even more special this time. With the changes, the film has been garnering all the love from the audience as the movie has been inching towards a milestone in just a few hours of its release. Sholay: The Final Cut is expected to break records at the box office again after 50 years of its original release.

According to trade website Sacnilk, Sholay The Final Cut has earned around 0.15 crore in India net till now. The movie is expected to show growth on the first day itself. Till now, the film has had an overall 9.17 per cent Hindi occupancy in theatres. In morning shows, it had 5.18 per cent occupancy and 13.15 per cent in the afternoon shows.
During its initial release, the film had a dream run of 5 years from 1975 to 1980. It then had a box office collection of Rs 15 crore in India and Rs 30 crore worldwide. The film’s inflation-adjusted box office collection 2022 was Rs 1884 crore.

When Ramesh Sippy talked about the original climax of Sholay
Earlier, in an interview with Screen, Ramesh Sippy said that the original climax was altered as the CBFC opposed. He said, “At that time, India was under emergency.” He also stated that when he was talking to the Censor Board head, the latter called the film ‘violent’. Sippy then told CBFC that they had not shown any blood and gore in the film rather focused on the impact. He further recalled, “He said the problem was exactly that: ‘The impact was too much.’ So, we knocked off some action scenes.”
More about Sholay
The movie is set against the backdrop of a village named Ramgarh, the place where notorious bandit Gabbar Singh rules. A retired police officer, Thakur Baldev Singh, hires two criminals, Jai and Veeru, to fight against Gabbar to take revenge for the murders of his family members. In the 1975 climax version shows that when Thakur tries to kill Gabbar, some local police officers stop him from taking the law into his own hands. Whereas the original climax, which has been re-released this time, shows that Thakur killed the bandit to take revenge for his sons’ and daughter-in-law’s deaths. Sholay features Amitabh Bachchan as Jaidev aka Jai, Dharmendra as Veeru, Sanjeev Kumar as Thakur Baldev Singh (a retired Police Officer), Hema Malini as Basanti (Veeru’s love interest), Jaya Bachchan as Radha (Thakur’s daughter-in-law) and Amjad Khan as Gabbar Singh (a wanted dacoit).
