The Huntsman is setting its sights on moviegoers.
Epic Pictures Group will release the mystery-thriller feature in select theaters in North America on Feb. 6 ahead of its VOD debut Feb. 10, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned. Shawn Ashmore (The Rookie, X-Men), Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost), Jessy Schram (Mad Men) and Garret Dillahunt (Fear the Walking Dead) lead the cast for director Kyle Kauwika Harris’ film.
The Huntsman centers on an ICU nurse who becomes immersed in a dangerous world after agreeing to help a coma patient accused of murdering six women. The trailer, which is also exclusive to THR, is below.
Harris helmed the movie from a script he co-wrote with Steven Jon Whritner that is based on author Judith Sanders’ novel. Frank J. Malinoski serves as executive producer.
“With The Huntsman, I wanted to tap into the gray areas of morality, the limits of justice and the slippery nature of truth creating a psychological tension that fuels the heart of the film,” Harris says. “It forces viewers to lean in, to question every moment and to stay on edge without relying on gratuitous violence. The true horror often lies not in what we see, but in what we don’t. The mind’s fragility is both a weapon and a vulnerability, one that we all share, regardless of our circumstances.”
He continues, “In making this film, my goal is not just to entertain, but to evoke a visceral reaction that lingers long after the credits roll, as The Huntsman is a thrilling journey where the only certainty is that nothing is what it seems, and no one can be trusted. And in that uncertainty, I hope you find a story that both challenges and thrills, leaving you questioning the characters as they confront their inner demons, be it grief, guilt or paranoia.”
Epic Pictures Group CEO Patrick Ewald adds, “This is the kind of elevated thriller we love backing. Dark, atmospheric and driven by strong performances, The Huntsman delivers a smart, twist-forward mystery that keeps the pressure on and audiences guessing until the very end.”
