Shahid Kapoor has officially kicked off the promotions of his much-awaited action drama, Deva. The first promo was successful in leaving his fans excited and giving them an insight into his intense and rugged new character. However, as soon as the trailer was unveiled, netizens were quick to draw comparisons between Deva and his popular role as Kabir Singh in the 2018 release. Some viewers continue to speculate if Shahid’s character in Deva could bear resemblance with the fiery, complex character he played in Kabir Singh.

Today, during a special press conference, Shahid Kapoor shed light on every aspect of his film Deva. The actor explained to the reporters the reason why his movie is so special to him. He refused to reveal much, as he didn’t want to talk a lot about his work, but revealed that it was an exciting feeling to portray the cop on the big screen. Kapoor also emphasised on the fact that he is keen on choosing characters that challenge him as an actor.

“Some are performance-orientated, some are commercial, but then there are films that offer both, and Deva has both. It’s a very massy film—the character, the songs, and the action are all very bold. Although the film’s edge is gritty, raw, and real, its treatment is commercial, front-footed, and modern. There’s a lot more to see. Deva is a special character; I lived it for a year. I immersed myself in the character, and before shooting, I worked closely with the director to develop the film. We spent a year developing the entire concept. There’s a lot of me as an actor in Deva,” he said.

But is Deva like Kabir Singh in any way? Shahid Kapoor clarified that there are no similarities between Deva and Kabir Singh. As reported by Times Now, Shahid said, “It’s an aggressive character, but Deva is only Deva. There is no Kabir Singh in Deva.” Film Deva is helmed by Rosshan Andrews and also stars Pooja Hedge in the lead role. It will release in theatres on January 31, 2025.
