Malayalam director Rosshan Andrrews’ made his debut Hindi film Deva starring Shahid Kapoor and Pooja Hegde released in theatres on January 31. According to Sacnilk, the film collected around Rs 18.7 crore net in India. As per the website reports, Deva managed to collect around Rs 6.8 crore net on its first Sunday and made Rs 18.7 crore net in India.
Deva collected Rs 5.5 crore net on its opening day but witnessed a surge in collections on Saturday with 16.36% and earned Rs 6.4 crore. As per reports, the morning show of Deva registered a 6.34% occupancy, while the afternoon show had 16.32% occupancy and the evening show had registered 22.08% occupancy.
Deva is a remake of Rosshan’s 2013 Malayalam film Mumbai Police which starred Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead role. While, Shahid plays the role of ACP Dev Ambre, a man who loses his memory while trying to solve the murder of his best friend’s murder. While, Pooja plays his lover, a reporter called Diya Sathaye.
During the press conference, Shahid spoke about the comparisons between Deva and Kabir Singh as he said, ‘It’s an aggressive character, but Deva is very Deva; there is no Kabir Singh in it. Deva is also not like any other character… Till Kabir Singh people said, is he like Tommy Singh in Udta Punjab?’
Shahid’s Deva is facing tough competition from Sky Force and the film earnings were not affected. Deva is witnessing a strong theatrical run and sees a steady growth despite shaky run.
