Shah Rukh Khan has been involved in several interesting films in his career. He is known as the King of Romance and has also done several comedies and social movies. In 2023, SRK established himself as an action star. During the 90s, Khan played a villain in several movies. He never shied away from playing a supporting role too. However, there is one movie that he claimed to have not understood back then.
The movie we are talking about is Karan Arjun. In the action drama, Shah Rukh Khan shared the screen space with Salman Khan. On the Roshans documentary, SRK opened up what he thought when Rakesh Roshan offered him the film. “Karan Arjun ki jo casting ki kahaani hai, voh Karan Arjun se bhi zyada interesting hai. Unhone (Rakesh Roshan) mujhe pehla scene bataya. I think do bacche paida hote hain ek ghar main, phir voh saath pakad lete hain aur mud ke dekhte hain. Mujhe laga mazaak kar rahe hain Rakesh ji. Maine bola, ‘Aisa thode thoda hai, Rakesh ji. Chote bachche thode na haath pakad lenge.’ He said, ‘Nahi, aur uspe aayega Karan Arjun.’ Toh mujhe from that day mujhe film samajh nahi aayi.” The Karan Arjun casting story is interesting, as when Rakesh explained the first scene, I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t understand the movie.
Further, SRK told Rakesh Roshan to give him a call and he would do the movie. Shah Rukh Khan wanted Ajay Devgan’s character in the film. Before Salman, Ajay was offered the role. But Ajay already established himself as an action star and SRK wanted to do an action movie. In the documentary, the Pathaan star recalled how Salman and him troubled Rakesh on sets, like two young kids troubling their father.

“Ek baar voh mujhe kabhi bolte the, ‘Gusse ke bolo ‘kutte’.’ Main aaj tak aise film main bola nahi. Maine kaha, ‘Rakesh ji mujhse kutta nahi bola ja raha hai. Main chilla deta hoon’,” recalled SRK. In November, Karan Arjun was re-released in theatres after it completed 30 years.
