And just like that, Jason Lewis is an author.
The “Sex and the City” alum, 54, revealed he moved to Costa Rica and wrote a nine-book fantasy series, a week after emerging on Instagram for the first time in three years.
During an interview with the Hollywood Reporter Thursday, Lewis revealed he spent his time in Central America surfing, learning Spanish and waking up — sometimes at 4 a.m. — to work on his trilogies.
“I do my thing and walk the beach or run the beach if the surf isn’t good yet and then have my coffee and settle in and get to the desk and have a session,” he detailed.
After breakfast he heads back to his desk and tries to “get anywhere from 1,000 to 2,000 words on the page a day.”
The books are all “set in the same world in different eras,” with the “Sex and the City 2” star releasing the seventh book first.
“I chose to start at the end,” Lewis told the outlet, stating that his novels land under the “epic fantasy” genre.
The actor shared that his return to social media was at the behest of his representation, but he doesn’t want “to get lost in the idea of performative posting.”
“I very much like to try and create a community,” Lewis expressed, “and not just be in the broadcast of, ‘Hey, check me out. Aren’t I awesome?’”
However, the writer knows he has to grow an audience that will take interest in his books, so he “put a lot of thought” into his first post back.
On May 21, Lewis uploaded a video of himself walking on the beach to the social media platform.
He cryptically explained to his followers why it “was time” to finally return to the app.
“I went quiet,” Lewis admitted. “Not because I have nothing to say, but because I had something to do.”
“The kind of creative work that doesn’t leave room for much else, and I made my peace with that. It’s the kind of work that needs to find its people, though.”
At the time, Lewis didn’t key his fans into his writing, but did say the project was “far enough along now that it felt like it was time to resurface and share what I’ve been doing.”
The former model captioned his post, “After three years, it was time.”
Lewis left the public eye after competing on Season 31 of “Dancing With the Stars” in 2022.
He and his dance partner, Peta Murgatroyd, were the first pair eliminated.
Lewis credited his fianceé, actress Liz Godwin, with convincing him to give the ABC show a shot.
“This year, when the offer came in, my fiancée asked me to be a little less pigheaded and at least take a look at a show,” he told People at the time.
Lewis first gained popularity for portraying Samantha Jones’ (Kim Cattrall) young model boyfriend Smith Jerrod on “Sex and the City” from 2003 to 2004.
He then starred in the 2008 “Sex and the City” movie and its sequel in 2010.
Despite being a fan-favorite, Lewis — whose last acting role was in 2018’s “Midnight, Texas” — was not asked to return for the show’s reboot series, “And Just Like That.”
“As much as I appreciate the flattery,” Lewis expressed to the Daily Front Row at the time, “the conversation is about the girls.”
