Selena Gomez’s mom, Mandy Teefey, is attempting to put out a social media fire that she started herself.
After sharing an Instagram post Sunday — that many fans took to be a dig at Gomez and the pop star’s younger half-sister, Gracie — Teefey responded to one fan, claiming it was all in good fun.
“Girl. It’s typically moms not cool joke,” her reply read. “Calm down. lol.”
Page Six has reached out to Gomez’s rep for comment.
Teefey’s reply was directly under a person’s comment that slammed the mom of two for stoking the fanbase with her “confusing” upload.
“WTF, Mandy. If you’re having issues with them, you shouldn’t post this on social media. People will take it out of context and keep hating on Selena,” the user argued. “I don’t know what’s going on, but go talk to your daughter instead of creating drama.”
The hubbub all began when Teefey, 50, posted a mirror selfie of Gomez, 33, and Gracie, 13, in a carousel Instagram post with the caption that began, “My greatest accomplishments, love me or not.”
“They are the coolest. I one day they will see what a bad ass I am and love me back as much as I love them. I’m just mom,” she wrote. “Who never gives up when they throw me in the trash. I tell ya mom you’re doing it wrong, maybe so, we will see. But no matter what I got your back.”
The slideshow was filled with memes and quotes — as well as another selfie of the “Hands to Myself” singer.
One slide featured a photo of a doll in a trashcan and the phrase, “Me when I have to run the business I manifested.” Another read, “She outgrew what drained her” written in the form of a neon sign.
A third stated, “Just to be clear, I’m that loyal friend who would take a bullet for you. But I’m probably also the reason we’re getting shot at. Balance matters.”
The post drew negative reactions from some fans, with one responding, “Posting about this as the parent is quite a strange choice queen 💔.”
A viral post on X, which included a screenshot of Teefey’s post and has garnered more than 500,000 views read, “One must keep their personal life to themselves and realise their daughter is too big of a celebrity to throw such tantrums.”
Others, meanwhile, defended Teefey for others taking her words “out of context” and praised her for raising two “wonderful” and “amazing” daughters.
Teefey, who co-founded the mental health organization Wondermind with Gomez in 2022 and runs the company as CEO, celebrated the “Wizards of Waverly Place” alum’s wedding to Benny Blanco last September.
“What a perfect celebration for the most kick ass couple I know! The evening couldn’t have been more beautiful and perfect!” she wrote at the time via Instagram.
“All my love to my beautiful daughter @selenagomez and to the greatest son in law @itsbennyblanco!!!” she added, calling the ceremony “a fairytale come true” and “absolutely flawless!”
Guests at the star-studded ceremony included Taylor Swift, Paris Hilton, Ed Sheeran, Paul Rudd and Gomez’s “Only Murders in the Building” co-stars Martin Short and Steve Martin.
