Selena Gomez previously discussed how her lupus treatment has caused her weight to fluctuate.
As social media critics pointed out the actress’ slimmer frame during Sunday’s 2025 SAG Awards, a February 2023 TikTok video resurfaced in which the “Emilia Pérez” star addressed comments about her body.
Gomez explained at the time that the medications she takes to manage her lupus — a disease that occurs when your body’s immune system attacks your own tissues and organs — can cause regular changes to her weight.
“When I’m taking [the medicine], I tend to hold a lot of water weight, and that happens very normally,” she shared. “And then when I’m off of it, I tend to kind of lose weight.”
During a 2023 episode of the Apple TV+ series “Dear…,” Gomez, 32, spoke more about her constant weight changes.
“My weight would constantly fluctuate because I would be on certain medications,” she explained. “And obviously, people just ran with it… It was like they couldn’t wait to find a thing to bring me down. I was being shamed for gaining weight because of my lupus.”
Speculation about Gomez’s weight reignited after she hit the red carpet at the 2025 SAG Awards in Los Angeles Sunday night.
The “Calm Down” singer stunned in a navy blue off-the-shoulder Celine gown and strappy sandals as she posed for photos.
Fans quickly took to social media to discuss how much slimmer Gomez appeared, with some netizens accusing the actress of taking the Hollywood-loved Type II diabetes drug Ozempic to achieve her figure.
“ozempic and plastic surgery are saving her career,” wrote one user on X.
“She must be on the ozempic bandwagon,” added another.
“She’s on that ozempicccc 😂,” claimed a third person.
Page Six has reached out to Gomez’s rep for comment but did not immediately hear back.
Gomez and her “Only Murders in the Building” co-stars took home the award for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series inside the awards ceremony Sunday evening.
The Disney star took the stage and delivered a heartfelt and hilarious speech to the star-studded audience.
“Wait, we never win. This is so weird,” she said while holding her award.
“Well, [Martin Short] and [Steve Martin] aren’t here because, you know, they don’t really care,” Gomez joked.
“Thank you to Marty and Steve for helping raise me. I genuinely am just so grateful to everybody — the writers, the entire team. Everyone deserves this, and I take it home for all of us.”
