Savannah Guthrie and her siblings knew “something was very wrong” when they saw the state of mom Nancy Guthrie’s home after the 84-year-old went missing.
The journalist shared chilling new details about the matriarch’s disappearance in a “Today” show interview that aired Thursday.
“The doors were propped open, there was blood on the front doorstep and the Ring camera had been yanked off,” she told Hoda Kotb. “So we were saying, ‘This is not OK.’”
While the Guthries initially “thought that [Nancy] must have had some kind of medical episode in the night and that somehow the paramedics had come,” due to the back doors being propped open, “that didn’t make any sense” to them.
“We thought maybe they came and there was a stretcher and they took her out the back,” Savannah said. “But her phone was there, her purse was there and all her things.”
She expressed disbelief over an abductor living with themself after stealing such a “little person” from her home.
Savannah tearfully recounted how Nancy was taken captive “in the dead of night in her pajamas, with no shoes without her medicine.”
After railing against the slew of ransom notes investigators received, only two of which she believes are real, Savannah addressed the footage officials obtained last month of the kidnapper.
“It’s just absolutely terrifying,” she said of the armed and masked individual. “It’s just totally terrifying, and I can’t imagine that that is who she saw standing over her bed.”
Crying, Savannah continued, “I can’t. It’s too much.”
As for Savannah’s thoughts regarding the Pima County Sheriff’s Department joint investigation with the FBI, she pointed out that “it’s still going.”
The former attorney noted, “People have worked tirelessly, tirelessly, and we see that. But we need answers. We cannot be at peace without knowing and someone can do the right thing. Our hearts are focused on that.”
Elsewhere in the sitdown, Savannah acknowledged that while she does “need to know” Nancy’s location, she believes she received a message from God about the mystery.
Savannah, who has “strong and resolute faith,” revealed she “heard a voice” that said, “You do know where she is. She’s with me.”
The Daytime Emmy winner declared, “So whether she’s on this Earth still or whether she’s in Heaven, I know where she is. I know who she’s with.”
Nancy has not been seen since Jan. 31, and the Guthries are offering a $1 million reward for information.
