Hong Kong singer-actress Sammi Cheung turned 54 last week and she had a simple birthday celebration with her singer husband Andy Hui.
In a recent Instagram post, she shared how they went to a diner to get some lemon tea when they met veteran Hong Kong singer Wan Kwong and his wife by chance. It was the first time she met him.
Sammi said at that moment, her mind drifted back to a long interview of his that she watched on YouTube, where the 82-year-old – who is also known by his nickname Temple Street Prince – talked about his life, experiences and changes he made including quitting gambling.
The interview had touched her.
“I was deeply moved after watching it. Indeed, everyone has their own story and they can all be very inspiring and touching,” she said in the post.
“Seeing him and his wife sitting comfortably in a booth, enjoying afternoon tea, their happiness seemed so real.”
She remarked: “Sometimes you don’t need much in life, just two cups of milk tea, two egg tarts and a thick egg sandwich.”
Sammi quoted lyrics from Wan Kwong’s 2023 song Dear Myself, before writing a message to herself. “Dear myself, 54 years old, counting blessings, thank you, heavenly father.”
She shared a photo she and Andy, 59, took with the elderly couple, as well as selfies she took with Wan Kwong while they were at the diner.
