The 2025 SAG Awards honored a slew of actors Sunday night, but the ceremony also paid homage to the city of Los Angeles after the devastating wildfires in January.
Host Kristen Bell kicked off the night with a monologue, in which she gave thanks to the firefighters in attendance for their heroic acts. Later, a tribute video was played to honor the hub of the entertainment industry. Clips from various iconic films and shows — including Grease, La La Land, Clueless, Baywatch and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air — graced the big screen, highlighting the ambition and hope of L.A. even amid such travesty.
The L.A. wildfires ignited on Jan. 7 in the Pacific Palisades before spreading across Los Angeles County. At least 29 people died due to the natural disaster while thousands were displaced or lost their homes. Many Hollywood stars lost their homes in the blaze, including Mandy Moore, Anna Faris, Paris Hilton, and Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag.
In the wake of such disaster, the L.A. community has responded with various events and fundraisers to offer relief to those affected, including the Jan. 30 FireAid benefit concert that saw a slew of artists, including Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Green Day and Lady Gaga, perform in support of the cause. The 2025 Grammys shed light on the impact of the wildfires on the music industry while A-listers honored those affected, while raising $7 million toward relief efforts throughout the night.
Before presenting the award for best actor in a comedy series, Joey King and Jack Quaid expressed their regards for L.A. as “two born and raised Angelenos” while joking that they “know L.A.” as natives of the city. “That means if you’re feeling lost in this sprawling city, we can help. We can direct you to a dispensary within 100 feet of where you’re currently standing,” Quaid quipped, while King added, “Or, we can direct you to a strip mall; we can get headshots, therapy and your Twitter account scrubbed in under an hour.”
Demi Moore, Zoe Saldaña, Timothée Chalamet and Kieran Culkin were among the top acting winners of the night while Conclave nabbed the win in the coveted best cast category. Heading into Sunday night, Wicked and Shogun dominated the nomination list with five nods each. Following closely behind was A Complete Unknown with four noms and Emilia Pérez and Anora with three nods each. All four of the films were nominated for the top prize of best cast alongside the winning Conclave.
The 2025 SAG Awards were hosted by Kristen Bell on Sunday night. Aside from hosting, Bell was notably nominated for best actress in a comedy series for Nobody Wants This. See what stars wore on the red carpet and the winners list.
