Robert Pattinson has no desire to play an old Batman.
The actor, who portrayed the Dark Knight in Matt Reeves‘ 2022 blockbuster The Batman, recently touched on the status of filming for the highly-anticipated sequel while speaking with his Mickey 17 co-star Naomi Ackie for Hero magazine.
“I fucking hope so,” Pattinson quipped when asked if he would be playing the superhero again soon. “I started out as young Batman and I’m going to be fucking old Batman by the sequel.”
“I’m 38, I’m old,” the Twilight star added before clarifying, “I’m old, but I’m healthier. I think I’ve actually brought my biological age down a bit.”
The Batman sequel has long been in development, with production expected to start in the third quarter of 2025. After the release was delayed multiple times, it’s now expected to hit theaters in October 2027.
While the sequel is not part of the DC universe being built by James Gunn and his DC partner Peter Safran, Gunn previously explained that the delay was due to Reeves working to perfect the script.
“Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write,” the Superman director shared on Threads in December. “Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films.”
After leaving some fans disappointed, Gunn later defended the delay, writing, “A five year gap or more is fairly common in sequels.”
Following The Batman‘s release in 2022, the film went on to become a critical and box office success, grossing more than $772 million worldwide.
