Chappell Roan is not wanted in Rio de Janeiro by the city’s mayor after Brazilian soccer star Jorginho Frello blasted the singer and her security for allegedly causing his stepdaughter to break down in tears.

Rio Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere posted to X on Saturday that Roan, 28, would never perform at Todo Mundo no Rio while he’s still in office.

Todo Mundo no Rio is a series of free international music events held on Copacabana Beach that’s been headlined by major superstars like Madonna and Lady Gaga. Shakira is headlining in May.

Cavaliere wrote, “I mean that as long as I’m in charge of our city — this young lady @ChappellRoan will never perform at Todo Mundo no Rio! I doubt that Shakira would do that!”

“By the way, [Frello], your little one is already the guest of honor from the organization in May!” he added, referring to Frello’s 11-year-old stepdaughter, Ada.

Frello made headlines on Saturday when he posted that Ada — whose father is actor Jude Law — and his wife (Ada’s mother), Catherine Harding, were mistreated by Roan’s security at a hotel in São Paulo, Brazil.

Roan is in the country as she’s a headliner at Lollapalooza Brazil this weekend alongside Sabrina Carpenter and Tyler, The Creator.

“My daughter woke up extremely excited, she even made a sign because she was so happy to see an artist she really admires, or used to admire @chappellroan,” Frello wrote on Instagram.

The athlete claimed Ada saw Roan at breakfast but did not approach her or ask her for anything. Frello alleged the singer’s “large” security guard then confronted Ada and her mother and spoke “in an extremely aggressive manner” to them.

“My daughter got super scared and cried a lot,” Frello wrote. “Honestly, I don’t know in what world just passing by a table and looking … can be considered harassment.”

Frello addressed Roan directly, writing, “Without your fans you would be nobody. And to the fans, she does not deserve your affection.”

Roan later responded with her own version of events, and said that the security guard in question was not part of her personal security.

“I didn’t even see a woman and a child, like, no one came up to me,” she said in an Instagram video. “No one bothered me. I was just sitting at breakfast in my hotel. I think these people were staying at the hotel, as well.”

“I did not, [and] they did not come up to me. They weren’t doing anything,” she clarified.

The”Pink Pony Club” singer stated that she does not “hate” people who are fans of her music.

“I do not hate children, like, that is crazy,” she added.
