“Revenge of the Nerds” star Donald Gibb dealt with a series of health issues leading up to his tragic death at the age of 71.

The actor was battling throat cancer and suffered a heart attack just a few weeks before he died, his son, Travis, told TMZ Wednesday.

Travis confirmed that his famous father’s cause of death was a result of his cancer.

According to Travis, Gibb died Tuesday at his Texas home while surrounded by his loved ones.

In a heartbreaking statement, Gibb’s family stated that he “loved the Lord and his family, his friends and his fans with all his heart.”

“Known for his larger-than-life presence on screen and his kindness off screen, he brought joy, laughter, and unforgettable memories to countless people throughout his life and career,” his family continued.

Additionally, they shared that the “Bloodsport” star would be “deeply missed and forever remembered.”

Gibb tied the knot to his wife, Jacqueline Bauer, in 1981.

Aside from Travis, he was also the father to Moana, Lehua, Mykkal and Olivia.

Gibb’s most famous role was as Ogre in the 1984 Jeff Kanew-directed film “Revenge of the Nerds.”

He also reprised his role in the film’s 1987 sequel, “Nerds in Paradise,” and the 1994 movie “Revenge of the Nerds IV: Nerds in Love.”

Gibb portrayed Ray Jackson in the 1988 movie “Bloodsport” and his most recent movie credit was as Bas in the 2026 film “Hands.”

On the small screen, he made appearances on many TV shows throughout the years, but his biggest role was that of Leslie “Dr. Death” Crunchner on “1st & Ten.”

Gibb’s death came shortly after “Revenge of the Nerds” co-star Robert Carradine died by suicide in February.

Carradine, who portrayed Lewis Skolnick, suffered from bipolar disorder for 20 years, his brother previously revealed.
