It’s been three months since Rebecca Lim gave birth to her daughter, and some days are tougher than others.
The Singaporean actress, who also has a two-year-old son with husband Matthew Webster, shared her struggles in an Instagram post on Sept 2.
“I am so grateful for my village and so incredibly thankful for my babies. But there are days when it hasn’t been easy,” she remarked.
Rebecca, who turns 39 later this month, said she mostly struggles with how she looks in the mirror and “despises” herself for the feelings that come up when she does.
“I know that there’s more to life than that, but I’m only human. And the pressure to bounce back is real,” she shared, before adding that she constantly has to remind herself that comparison is the thief of joy.
“Some days, I can’t pretend that I’m okay and perhaps that’s what I want to say. That it is okay if you’re not okay. Every one of us is fighting a battle no one else can see.”
She said “it’s okay to miss who you were” but encouraged her followers to embrace their new selves at the same time. “Perhaps this changed version is better. Softer, yet stronger and wiser.”
Rebecca also shared a photo of herself carrying her newborn, whom she referenced in the caption.
“It’s moments like this, with her little head resting on my shoulder, that remind me why I have to learn to love every part of myself, even when I don’t feel my best,” she said.
“Because I pray that as she grows, she learns how to love herself too. Especially on the hard days.”

Her good friend, makeup artist Shaun Lee, wrote in the comments how proud he is of her, adding “Your strength and vulnerability are inspiring.”
Rebecca replied back: “You know the tears I’ve cried.”
On the same day, Shaun made a post celebrating “little moments” in his life, many of which included Rebecca.
He said it took years for them to “reach this level of comfort” in their friendship, posting photos of them together and one with Rebecca holding her newborn.
He also shared a photo of himself playing around with Rebecca’s son, also his godson.

Rebecca had previously expressed reluctance to expand her family.
In an interview with AsiaOne, she explained it was because her first birth had been “quite traumatic”, consequently taking her a long time to return to showbiz.
She said she struggled to find a new equilibrium between work and motherhood and it was also difficult to lose her postpartum weight.
