Ray J has revealed that he only has months left to live after being hospitalized for a severe case of pneumonia earlier in January.
The “One Wish” singer took to his Instagram on Jan. 25 to share an update on his health after he “almost died.”
“I was in the hospital. My heart’s only beating, like, 25 percent, but as long as I stay focused and stay on the right path, everything will be alright,” he said. “So thank you for all your prayers.”
While Ray J later admitted in the video that his health is still “not OK,” he added that he’s appreciative of those standing by his side during this time: “Thank you to my mom, [sister] Brandy, and my dad, and everybody for helping me through.”
Elsewhere, in a separate Instagram livestream that’s been reposted on X, the “Sexy Can I” artist offered more details on his current health status. He shared that doctors told him that he only has a short time to live.
“2027 is definitely a wrap for me,” Ray J said before adding in another clip, “I fucked my heart up on the right side, right here. It’s, like, black. It’s like done.”
He continued, “I fucked up. You know why? Because I think I thought I had more weight. I thought I was a big n***a, so I could handle all the alcohol. I could handle all the Adderall. I could handle all the drugs. I could handle everything, but I couldn’t. My shit fucked up. And it curbed my time here.”
The singer added that he was drinking “four or five bottles a day” and taking “10 Addies” at a time at the height of his drug and alcohol usage. “I’m like, ‘Ain’t nothing happening to me? Fuck it. I’m indestructible,’” he said. “Joke’s on me. Take care of yourselves, y’all.”
Ray J gained prominence in the early 2000s after releasing some R&B hits as well as starring in the reality TV shows Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood and For the Love of Ray J. He was later at the center of controversy following the release of his and then-girlfriend Kim Kardashian’s sex tape in 2007.
A few months prior to being hospitalized with pneumonia, Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner, hit the singer with a defamation lawsuit in October 2025 after he suggested on a livestream video that the two were involved in an illegal criminal enterprise and were about to be under federal indictment.
Ray J was also arrested in Los Angeles on Thanksgiving for a reported domestic dispute.
