Priyanka Chopra revealed that husband Nick Jonas’ willingness to embrace her culture and traditions has been crucial to the success of their marriage.
“I don’t know if I’d love him if he didn’t,” the “Citadel” actress told E! News at the New York City premiere of “The Cycle of Love” on Thursday.
“That is a big part of any story or any relationship that is multicultural. I think it’s really important to have a sense of respect for your partner’s roots.”
Chopra added of her 8-year marriage to the singer that “being kind to your partner” is “something that’s really important.”
The power couple married in a lavish, multi-day ceremony held in Chopra’s native India back in 2018, inviting a high-profile international guest list to the festivities.
Chopra, 44, and Jonas, 33, subsequently welcomed their daughter, Malti Marie, via surrogate in 2022.
The “Quantico” alum and Jonas Brothers member continue to honor the former beauty queen’s Indian heritage by observing Hindu traditions and holidays. In 2023, they shared photos from a family trip with Malti to India.
In a February interview, Chopra revealed that her husband’s sincerity has also played a part in their ongoing bond, now “eight years in.”
“Nick has this absolute sincerity,” she told Variety at the time. “It inspires me every day in a profession which requires you to pivot and become whatever you need to put on. He’s constantly sincere.”
Chopra went on to explain that the quality is “disarming” and note that his parents
“are the most wonderful, levelheaded, absolute saints, so [she] can see where it comes from.”
The actress explained that because Jonas is “comfortable” in his sincerity, she “really learned how to be a lot more comfortable in my awkwardness and my insecurities since [she] got married to him.”
“It really continues to be inspiring to me, this sincerity,” she went on. “We don’t see it often enough anymore, that deep truth when you just start talking to someone. You’re like, ‘Oh, this person is completely transparent.’”
Jonas, meanwhile, once revealed he knew instantly that Chopra was the woman for him. “It was kind of an instant thing,” he told Entertainment Tonight in 2019.
“I knew once we locked in together that I had a partner for life and a teammate, someone I could walk through the good times and the bad times with, and that was the key.”
