Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly made a generous donation of $250,000 to a women’s wellness center founded by President Joe Biden’s daughter, Ashley.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s meaningful contribution to the first daughter’s Women’s Wellness (Spa)ce in north Philadelphia, PA, was published in The Archewell Foundation’s Impact Report for the 2023-2024 year on Dec. 2, according to People.
The outlet reports that the Archewell Foundation’s tax records from last year show that the organization donated $250,000 to the initiative.
“The center aims to offer a safe haven and community for women impacted by trauma, providing resources such as nutritious food, exercise, meditation, and therapeutic interventions,” the Impact Report states, per People.
The report furthered that Ashley drew inspiration from her experience with the criminal justice system and her work with Mural Arts’ Women’s Reentry Program, which provides opportunities for formerly incarcerated women.
The center is also described as “a mindfully designed drop-in wellness center for women in Philadelphia, PA,” according to its linktr.ee page.
The royal couple’s foundation is a founding partner of the facility created by Ashley, who is a social worker, the report shows.
The outlet further reported that the wellness center closely aligns with the Archewell Foundation’s core value of providing mental health support.
Ashley, 43, previously spoke about her dreams of opening a wellness center for women during an interview with Elle published last March.
“I was able to get great treatment, and so I’ve been able to take some of those things that I’ve learned in therapy and use them as well. EMDR [eye movement desensitization and reprocessing] did wonders for me when it came to my brother’s death,” she said, referring to the passing of her brother, Beau Biden, who died from brain cancer at the age of 46 in 2015.
She continued, “If you have money and something happens, you can go to the best therapist you can find. That doesn’t happen for people who are living in poverty.”
Ashley reportedly envisioned a drop-in space where women can do everything from eating a healthy meal to boxing, using a treadmill, listening to guided meditation, accessing different therapies including EMDR and using infrared saunas to help with PTSD.
Markle and Harry’s donation to the wellness center fell under the portion of the report titled “Uplifting Women and Girls.”
The other missions of their philanthropy included community wellbeing, investing in information integrity and collaborating for impact, People reported.
“In a world that often feels fractured, there are moments that cut through the noise, reminding us of our strength when we stand together: resilience, courage, and a commitment to something greater than ourselves,” Archewell Foundation’s co-executive directors, James Holt and Shauna Nep, said in the report.
Their statement continued, “This year, at The Archewell Foundation, we’ve witnessed the transformative power of human connection — of people reaching across divides to uplift one another.”
The “Suits” alum, 43, has shown a passion for lifting women up through her foundation over the years.
Last year, she became involved with the female-founded coffee company Clevr Blends. Last November, Markle also visited the Justice for Girls nonprofit in Vancouver.
