Dancing, carefree, energetic and revelling in the attention, he moved easily between groups at a West London party I attended last summer, a drink in hand and a confidence that suggested he expected to be recognised and admired.

At the bar, he struck up conversations with groups of women, laughing loudly, leaning in, and working the room with the ease of someone long accustomed to being the focal point.

Later, he was on the dancefloor with friends, relaxed and smiling.

But that night now feels like a snapshot from a different chapter, one that sits in stark contrast to the more complicated reality of Jermaine Jenas’s life in 2026.

Because Jenas, 43, is now navigating a reality that is far less straightforward.

Those who know him say that while the outward charm remains intact, behind the scenes circumstances have shifted dramatically, forcing a period of adjustment few could have predicted during the height of his broadcasting career.

The turning point, of course, came with the scandal that led to the former professional footballer turned TV commentator’s BBC exit.

Once tipped as the frontrunner to be the new Match of the Day host after Gary Lineker, Jenas was dismissed after being accused of sending explicit messages to two female colleagues.

He was also temporarily taken off talkSport.

Jenas is now enjoy a second life in Paris with his new girlfriend, Anne Leplaideur, a 31-year-old Parisian estate agent working in the French capital’s 17th arrondissement

Jenas later admitted to sending the texts, while maintaining they were consensual and that no laws had been broken. Six months later, the consequences were extending far beyond his career.

His wife, Ellie Penfold, with whom he shares four children, announced their split in March. The separation marked the end of a long-term relationship that had, until then, largely been kept out of the headlines.

Friends say the breakdown of the marriage hit Jenas particularly hard, not least because of the impact on his role as a father, something he has often described as central to his identity away from his career.

Recently, in his first candid interview since the split, Jenas revealed his regret on the Filthy Fellas podcast.

‘It was her decision and one that I had to accept,’ he said. ‘If it was up to me, I’d probably be prepared to be unhappy for the rest of my life if it meant I had my kids in it.’

While Jenas is still flummoxed by the fallout, Ellie appears to have moved decisively forward.

Now running her own venture, Preppy Skin – a skincare brand aimed at children and teenagers – she has carved out an independent identity out of her ex’s shadow.

Her social media presence paints a picture of frequent travel, particularly to Dubai, often with their children in tow. Just last week she told her followers, ‘You don’t need a man’. That followed her seemingly doing some DIY while wielding a drill.

As for Jenas, one very tangible symbol of his past life remains unresolved – the former marital home he once shared with Ellie.

The six-bedroom property in Barnet, north London, is still on the market and, crucially, still at the same £4.9 million asking price.

Complete with a spa, a swimming pool, a cinema and a games room, it is every inch the kind of home befitting an ex-Premier League footballer with a new career in TV.

Jenas originally purchased the property for £2.8 million back in 2006 during his time at Tottenham Hotspur – a period when his career, and earning power, were at their peak.

The house was put up for sale in March this year, following his split from Ellie. Jenas now lives alone in a modern apartment.

However, he does also enjoy a second life in Paris with his new girlfriend, Anne Leplaideur. Last week, it emerged that he has been dating Anne, a 31-year-old Parisian estate agent working in the French capital’s 17th arrondissement.

Described as glamorous, with a taste for high fashion and fast cars, Anne represents a very different chapter.

According to sources, the relationship began in December and has gradually become more serious.

The cross-Channel romance has definitely shaken things up a bit, with regular trips to Paris giving Jenas a chance to step away from the UK spotlight and mix with a completely different crowd.

Running by the River Seine in the morning, taking boxing classes and buying fresh produce from local markets, he seems to have relaxed into a new version of himself, deliberately removed from the world he once occupied during his television career.

He also seems to be jet-setting around the world to play golf. He most recently helped Team England defend their Reignwood Icons of Football title earlier this year at Robinswood Golf Club in Thailand.

Professionally, Jenas’s trajectory has also massively shifted.

Today, he is available on Cameo, charging fans £112.71 for a personalised video message and £338.14 for business requests.

The former Premier League footballer, pictured during the London E-Prix in 2024, was earning around £190,000 a year as a BBC presenter

His profile reads: ‘Former Premier League footballer. Spurs, Newcastle, England. TV presenter. Been through it all, happy to make someone’s day.’ It is very different to his life as a £190,000-a-year BBC presenter.

Jenas is now primarily focused on a podcasting career – though his sidekick has raised eyebrows.

His current project, Wildcards, launched in August 2025, is co-hosted with former footballer and his talkSport colleague, Jermaine Pennant – one of the most infamously badly behaved Premier League stars of the Noughties.

Friends say the podcast works well for Jermaine, allowing him to work from France with ease.

The weekly programme centres on football discussion and industry insight, reflecting the experiences of two players whose careers have included both notable achievements and off-field scrutiny.

Pennant himself brings a similar backstory.

Once the most expensive youth signing in football history when Arsenal paid £2 million to secure him from Notts County at just 15, his career has long been intertwined with headlines off the pitch.

From his time on Celebrity Big Brother, where he was criticised for flirting with model Chloe Ayling while married, to a string of high-profile relationships and allegations of infidelity, Pennant’s personal life has often overshadowed his footballing achievements.

The partnership with Jermaine Jenas appears well aligned – two former professionals adjusting to life after football and marital problems.

‘It’s all a bit sad,’ says one friend. ‘Jermaine Jenas should have the job hosting Match of the Day. Instead he’s sitting next to Jermaine Pennant doing a podcast.

‘Pennant was low in his day; he had a terrible reputation for womanising. He was vile.’

The podcast isn’t just a side project for Jenas. Sources say it’s a way of carving out his place in football again, even if it looks very different to before.

There’s not a big studio or guaranteed audience now – it is up to him to keep people interested week after week.

Whether this is a stepping stone or a full reinvention is anyone’s guess.

And yet, Jenas himself is not standing still.

In Paris, he’s building a different rhythm of life with his new girlfriend. Yet there is unfinished business back in London, with the former family home still on the market. It’s a lingering reminder of the life he seems desperate to move on from.
