Pop artist Ashley Longshore says she’s been shunned from Miami’s Art Basel for three decades, “because they do not consider me a commercial artist because I do not give up 50% [of sales],” she explained.
In fact, “Most of the art fairs… will not allow me to participate because I represent myself… I’m their worst nightmare,” she told Page Six.
Longshore is a favorite among A-list celebs such as Salma Hayek and Blake Lively.
She has released her fourth book, “Giving the Bird,” a collection of bird paintings.
We caught up with her at a book signing she hosted at her Soho gallery with her fashion buddy Christian Siriano, who was also hawking his latest book, “The New Red Carpet.”
The duo quipped that their dream collaboration would be, “making jock straps for Shawn Mendes.”
In the meantime, Longshore is preparing to head down to Miami for her first art fair next month after convincing AQUA Art to let her show Dec. 4 through Dec. 8.
And the art fair world is in for a treat, she promises.
“I’m actually going to have $30,000 in $1 bills all over the floor. The whole installation is about financial independence giving the middle finger to the f–king patriarchy,” she said standing in front of a piece with a a bedazzled, “No,” and middle finger.
She added she’s flipping the bird out of love. “I do it joyously… I don’t do it with anger. I do it because I work my ass off, and I’m going to down there and give them everything I got! They’re gonna be sorry,” she concluded.
