As awards season chugs along, it was the Costume Designers Guild’s turn on Thursday, announcing the winners across film, television, short form costume design and costume illustration.
The 2026 Costume Designers Guild Awards, held at The Ebell of Los Angeles, saw prizes handed out to the costume designers behind One Battle After Another, Frankenstein and Wicked: For Good, while on the TV side, awards went to The Studio, Palm Royale and Andor.
The evening was hosted by actress Courtney Hope, with a number of special honors also awarded: the Career Achievement Award to veteran costume designer Michelle Cole, the Distinguished Collaborator Award to James Cameron, the Spotlight Award to Kate Hudson and the Vanguard Spotlight Award to Teyana Taylor.
Taylor, who has stunned on red carpets throughout awards season, noted in her speech, “I love building looks from the ground up — pulling references, blending eras, mixing masculine with feminine energy and street couture. For me, fashion is another form of directing; it tells a story before I ever step on a stage or in front of a camera,” as she shouted out “every designer who has collaborated with me and trusted my creative instincts.”
Accepting her award, Hudson spoke about how “some of my earliest memories are sitting on the floor of a studio in Hollywood surrounded by every sequin imaginable. Looking down at me are these giants: my exquisite mother and the phenomenal, iconic Bob Mackie.” She later teased, “I hope I get to work with every single person in this room, and I promise I’m really fun to work with. I’m good at collaborating and I’ll always take a no.” And during Cameron’s time on stage, the filmmaker emphasized how “these awards and this community that celebrates the art of design is so critical in this age of the onslaught of AI. Honor the artist given creativity, because you know what? AI don’t sew.”
Another notable moment came with The Studio‘s win, as costume designer Kameron Lennox paid tribute to the recently passed Catherine O’Hara, revealing she and assistant designer Tyler Kinney were wearing some of the late star’s jewelry that night in her honor.
Also at the event, Bulgari served as a strategic partner and introduced a new edition of the Guild’s iconic statuette, The Adrian, as well as dressed several of the honorees, while Tracee Ellis Ross, Paul Feig, Katherine LaNasa, Janelle Monáe, Diallo Riddle, Samba Schutte, Jodie Turner-Smith, Damon Wayans and Sasheer Zamata appeared as presenters.
