Those who braved the frigid weather to hit Central Park on Sunday got a chance to see Olympic snowboarder Shaun While pulling off some gnarly moves — including jumping over comic Shane Gillis.
According to a spy, the three-time Olympic gold medalist flew under the radar while shredding the small slopes of the city’s greatest park for nearly an hour before anyone clocked who was catching air.
“He was doing jumps over the rocks near 79th and 5th for about 45 minutes when people started to realize who he was,” said a source. “He had his helmet and goggles on most of the time. But then he started giving advice to other snowboarders and skiiers who were there, and they realized who it was.”
We hear the crowd snowballed fast. Our spy says that nearly “300 people ran over after they heard he was there.”
White threw down a number of tricks on the makeshift slopes, including a flip and a giant jump over Gillis.
We hear the snowboarder, who holds world record for the most X Games gold medals, had gone to see the hit comic’s show at Madison Square Garden on Friday night and they connected after that.
“Shaun invited Shane to meet him in the park,” says the spy who tells us Gillis showed up with his sister, niece, and “Tires” co-star Chris O’Connor.
An insider tells us that White had not planned on hitting the small slopes, but, like everyone else, got stuck in town.
“It was a last-minute idea,” said the source. “Shaun was supposed to fly back to the west coast and his flight was canceled on Sunday.”
White, known as the “Flying Tomato” has competed in the Olympics five times and has won ten ESPYs including several for “Best Male Action Sports Athlete.”
