It’s been more than a decade since Michael Schumacher suffered a life-changing brain injury during a skiing accident in the French Alps.
And still, the mystery surrounding his condition continues to weigh heavily on fans around the world.
Now, a journalist with close ties to Schumacher’s family has offered rare insight into the Formula 1 legend’s current state.
Michael Schumacher requires full-time care and is unable to speak, says journalist
Felix Gorner, a journalist with RTL Germany, shared a sobering update in an interview with the Daily Mail this week. According to Gorner, Schumacher’s condition remains extremely serious. “The situation is very sad,” he said. “He needs round-the-clock care and is completely dependent on his carers. He’s no longer able to communicate verbally.”
These words are among the most detailed comments in years regarding the seven-time world champion’s health. Since the accident in December 2013, Schumacher has remained out of the public eye, with his family fiercely protective of his privacy.
Very limited access: Only close circle allowed to visit Michael Schumacher
Gorner also commented on the family’s strict privacy strategy—particularly the role played by Michael’s wife, Corinna. “There are no more than 20 people who are allowed to see him,” Gorner revealed, adding that he believes this approach is the right one. “The family is acting entirely in Michael’s best interest. They’ve always protected his privacy, and that hasn’t changed.”
In February, Corinna Schumacher broke her silence to condemn an alleged blackmail attempt involving a former family security guard. Her statement offered no update on her husband’s condition but reinforced the family’s determination to shield him from the public spotlight.
While many fans continue to hope for positive news, Gorner’s remarks are a reminder of the profound impact the accident had—and the quiet strength it takes to honour Schumacher’s legacy with dignity and care.
