Tragic new details in Rob and Michele Reiner’s murders have emerged after the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health released the couple’s death certificates.
According to the documents, which were obtained Tuesday by Page Six, the actor-director and his wife died on Sunday, Dec. 14, within “minutes” of receiving “multiple sharp force injuries” with a “knife, by another.”
Their bodies were cremated, and their remains were returned to their son Jake Reiner, 34.
TMZ was first to report on the death certificates.
Rob, who was 78, and Michele, who was 70, were found by their 28-year-old daughter, Romy Reiner, stabbed to death in their home in the Brentwood neighborhood of LA in the late afternoon of Dec. 14, with sources claiming their throats had been slit.
The LA County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled that the manner of death was homicide.
Rob and Michele’s troubled son, Nick Reiner — who was reportedly diagnosed with schizophrenia before the killings and has a long history of drug addiction — was arrested hours later near Exposition Park in Downtown LA after reportedly leaving behind bloody evidence at a hotel in Santa Monica.
He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders and will remain locked away in solitary confinement at Twin Towers Correctional Facility until his Jan. 7 arraignment.
The 32-year-old is reportedly expected to plead not guilty by reason of insanity.
Nick is facing a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.
The night before the murders, Rob and Michele brought Nick to a Christmas party at Conan O’Brien’s house.
They were reportedly “reluctant to leave him home alone” because his “extreme and stressful behavior” had escalated and “grown degrees even more concerning in recent weeks.”
During the bash, where Nick was observed behaving strangely and getting into an argument with his parents, Rob reportedly said he was “petrified” that Nick could one day “hurt” him.
About a month prior, doctors reportedly changed Nick’s schizophrenia medications, which led to him acting “erratic and dangerous.”
They were reportedly in the process of adjusting his meds to stabilize him when tragedy struck.
Rob and Michele are also survived by his adopted stepdaughter, Tracy Reiner, 61, from his first marriage to Penny Marshall.
