Your onscreen heartthrob Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer has switched careers.

On Sept 2, ride-hailing and food delivery company Grab Singapore announced on Instagram their new microdrama titled I Fell In Love With My Grab Driver with a blurred-out poster.

Yesterday (Sept 3), they announced the cast members, confirming netizens’ earlier guesses on the leading actors.

As most expected, the leading man and titular “Grab driver” is Glenn Yong, whose last series is as Inspector Zachery Tay in the second season of On The Line – a microdrama produced by Mediacorp in collaboration with ICA – released in April.

Starring opposite the 30-year-old is actress-model Regina Lim, also 30.

Regina plays Emily, a “sandwich gen” caregiver whom everyone depends on. She meets Henry (played by Glenn), a Grab driver who shows up for her.

The cast also includes Magdalene Wong as Emily’s mother Choo Mei Ling, Estian Cheah and Goh Wee-Ann as Emily’s children Bryan and Clara, and Matthew Lee as Emily’s boss Damien who “has something up his sleeve”.

The drama premieres on Sept 9, and netizens have mixed reactions.

“If Glenn Yong is my Grab driver… even me as a straight guy also will fall in love with him,” one said.

“I think I fell in love with the cast already,” remarked another.

Some were not for it.

One netizen lamented: “Please no.”

“Wtf is this?” said another.

Others suggested common soap opera tropes for the story.

“Plot twist – Henry has a long-lost twin brother Eric, who’s Emily’s dead husband,” said one.

Another joked: “Is the plot Henry being secretly the son of the CEO or someone wealthy?”

Grab Singapore has not announced where the microdrama will be streaming.
