“Narcos: Mexico” actor Manuel Masalva is in a medically induced coma after contracting a “very aggressive” bacterial infection while on vacation.
“My brother is fighting for his life far away from home,” one of the actor’s friends Mario Morán said in a TikTok shared on Wednesday.
“As of today, his situation remains delicate,” Morán added.
Morán also shared that a GoFundMe had been created to assist with the actor’s medical costs.
“The medical costs are enormous and in a country where everything is more difficult, any help, no matter how small, can make the difference in this very difficult moment,” he said in the clip.
“If you can contribute, we thank you with our entire hearts.”
Representatives for the actor did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
The GoFundMe created for Masalva shared an update on Thursday saying that he “remains in critical condition” but the “bacteria” has “already been detected.”
“He’s on antibiotics, and we’re waiting for him to begin to improve,” the post, which was written in Spanish, reads.
The creators of the campaign also thanked those who had donated to their cause. At the time of the post, the campaign had surpassed its goal of 1 million Mexican Pesos (which is around $49,000 USD).
“Many thanks to everyone who has donated so far; your generosity and support are crucial during this difficult time for Manuel and his loved ones.”
“We deeply appreciate the generosity of acquaintances, friends, and family,” the post continued.
“Together, we can make a huge difference for Manuel and provide him with the strength and support he needs to recover.”
Masalva is best known for his role as Ramón Arellano Félix in Netflix’s “Narcos: Mexico.”
He starred alongside Michael Peña, Scoot McNairy, Diego Luna in the spinoff series, which ran for three seasons before it ended in 2021.
Masalva’s other credits include the Mexican series “La Guzmán” and “Tengo Que Morir Todas Las Noches.”
