One of the stars of the popular Netflix series Narcos: Mexico, Gerardo Taracena, has died at age 55.

So far there is no cause of death which has been listed as ‘unknown.’

The Mexican Academy of Film Art and Sciences, which announced his death via Instagram on Sunday, said he was a ‘fundamental actor in Mexican cinema, whose presence on screen left an intense, honest, and profoundly human mark.’ 

Taracena was an actor born in Mexico City in 1970 who worked on TV and movies as well as being a professional dancer.

He starred in the movies Apocalypto, Man On Fire, The Violin and Sin Nombre.   

But Taracena found his greatest success on the small screen in the Narcos spinoff Narcos: Mexico for three seasons.

The actor played drug smuggler Pablo Acosta for 11 episodes from 2018 to 2020. His girlfriend Mimi was played by Sosie Bacon, who is the daughter of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick.

Taracena was well recognized in his native Mexico.

He received nominations for three Ariel Awards, which are awarded to the best Mexican films. 

The New York Post reported that he had four projects in the works, two in post-production and two in pre-production.
