Naomi Osaka always brings powerhouse fashion to the tennis court.
The 28-year-old star doesn’t keep to classic tennis whites; Instead, she uses the games as her own personal runway, making a statement before she even grabs a racket — from bedazzled Labubus to oversized bows and more.
A week into the 2026 Australian Open, Osaka wore what is, perhaps, her most eye-catching look yet.
Clad in Robert Wun couture, the athlete stepped onto the tennis court wearing a turquoise and green racerback tunic and tiered white knife-pleated pants.
Her Nike-branded top featured ribbons and ruffles that were inspired by a jellyfish’s tendrils, while her wide-brimmed white bat boasted a tulle veil that also mimicked the fluid nature of the creature.
The tennis player spoke to Vogue about her sartorial choice, sharing, “When I look back at the players who came before me, I think about how those moments — those looks — have become memories that live forever,” adding, “This felt like a moment where I could write a little bit of my own.”
The jellyfish inspiration came from her 2-year-old daughter Shai: “There was an image of a jellyfish, and when I showed it to her she got so excited.”
Initially, that was translated into a Nike zip-up that featured similar ruffles and tendrils, representing “the jellyfish’s beauty and elegance — not to mention its power” that Osaka, too, shares.
“When I saw [the jacket] during the fitting, I remember thinking, ‘this is beautiful,’ but also feeling like the story wasn’t fully finished yet,” Osaka told the publication, looking to Wun to help her fully realize the fashion moment.
It was a full-circle partnership, as Wun also shared that a moment from Osaka’s 2021 Australian Open had actually given him inspiration for one of his fall 2024 collection looks.
“When a butterfly landed on her face mid-match,” he explained, “A simple, beautiful scene that went viral as she gently placed it aside … I wanted to revisit that story and weave it into this design and collaboration.”
Osaka incorporated the magical moment into her look as well, adding a tiny butterfly to her cap.
