Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran‘s latest movie L2: Empuraan has emerged as a Box Office hit. The film released on March 27 and since then, it has been pulling cinegoers to theatres. For the unversed, the movie is the sequel of political action thriller Lucifer that released in 2019. Prithviraj Sukumaran dons the hat of director for this film too. Following the positive reviews, L2: Empuraan has been successful in performing well at the box office. Since it release, the Malayalam action thriller has earned a massive amount and crossed the coveted Rs 50 crore mark at the box office.
As per a report in Sacnilk.com, L2: Empuraan starring Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran in leading roles earned Rs 11 crore on day 5. The numbers were at par with what it made on day 2. The movie continued its pace even on Monday but it should be noted that it was also Eid holiday. On its first Sunday, the film made around Rs 13.65 crore at the box office. The day 3 witnessed a good turnout as the movie made approximately Rs 13.25 crore. On its second day, the film made around Rs 11.1 crore. It was the day one when L2: Empuraan clocked the highest numbers. The movie made whopping Rs 21 crore on its opening day. The total collection of the film now stands at Rs 70 crore. The maximum numbers are being pulled in by the Malayalam version of the film.
The Hindi version of the film is now facing a stiff competition from Salman Khan’s movie Sikandar that also stars Rashmika Mandanna. Sikandar is directed by AR Murugadoss and is a complete masala entertainer.
Meanwhile, L2: Empuraan is mired in a controversy over the depiction of Gujarat riots in the film. As per the reports, the makers are making several edits to the movie. The new version has been reportedly sent to the Censor Board. Amid the ongoing row surrounding his latest movie L2 Empuraan, superstar Mohanlal had to issue an apology. “I have learnt that some of the political-social themes that have emerged in the expression of the movie ‘Empuraan’, the second part of the ‘Lucifer’ franchise, have caused a lot of disappointment to many of my lovers. As an artist, it is my duty to ensure that none of my movies harbours hatred towards any political movement, idea or religion,” Mohanlal mentioned in the post.
“Therefore, I and the Empuraan team sincerely regret the mental pain caused to my loved ones, and with the realisation that the responsibility lies with all of us who worked behind the film, we have decided together to compulsorily remove such parts from the movie,” the star added.
