Bernice Yuen has been crowned Miss Hong Kong 2026.
The beauty pageant’s grand final was held last night (Aug 30) at TVB City in Tseung Kwan O, with 12 contestants running for the top spot.
The theme for this year was “Dare to be Perfect” and 26-year-old Bernice – a communications graduate of Hong Kong Baptist University – gave a self-introduction titled My Bravest Moment.
She had earlier travelled to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to compete in Miss Chinese World 2026, where she finished second runner-up.
She shared her experience travelling to another city alone to take part in the pageant, where she said she gained confidence and learnt to be her “true self”.
When asked who she feels sorry towards, she cried as she mentioned her family.
“I want to apologise to my parents. Ever since I was little, I’ve loved performing and my parents were worried, wondering why I wanted to become an actress after finishing university. I love the stage, and I hope to use my own story to tell everyone that as long as you’re brave enough to take that first step, you can succeed,” she said.
In an interview with Hong Kong media after her win, Bernice revealed her parents initially weren’t in favour of her decision to work in showbiz.
“My parents really didn’t support me in entering the industry at first. They thought it wouldn’t be an easy path to take. But I really wanted to chase my dream, so I kept persevering,” she said.
It appeared her parents had a change of heart as they were seen in the audience at the finals, cheering as they held up a sign that said “Bernice No. 1”.
According to South China Morning Post, Bernice has worked as a theme park performer, theatre actress, model and event host.
Coming in second at Miss Hong Kong 2026 was 24-year-old Ada Tang, a fashion design graduate who had worked in London before entering the beauty pageant.
She was a pattern-making assistant at a haute couture brand, reported The Standard.
Second runner-up Scarlett Li, also 24, was also named Miss Photogenic.
Holding a master’s degree from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, she worked as a sustainability reporting consultant before entering the competition.
According to HK01, she has also starred in commercials and music videos.
Miss Hong Kong 2026 auditions began in June this year, where nearly 100 contestants were said to be interviewed.
