The Minions are back with more scheming in the Super Bowl trailer for their latest cinematic adventure.

During the game, a spot aired that showed a minion running toward the camera with a white background, yelling “minions” and then “monster,” following by a roar from an unseen creature. “Watch the trailer,” the spot told viewers, officially revealing the title of the film: Minions & Monsters. The actual trailer was posted online. Watch it below.

Universal Pictures releases filmmaker Pierre Coffin‘s animated sequel in theaters July 1. The Minions were first introduced as sidekicks to former supervillain Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) in the 2010 title Despicable Me.

Coffin, who directed the first three Despicable Me films and the first Minions spinoff movie, is helming Minions & Monsters from a script from Brian Lynch. Coffin voices the yellow mischief-makers in the feature that hails from Illumination and counts Chris Meledandri and Bill Ryan as producers.

The Minions were last seen on the big screen in 2024’s Despicable Me 4, which followed the 2022 release of the characters’ second spinoff film, Minions: The Rise of Gru. Between the Despicable Me and Minions movies, the Minions characters have helped push the franchise to nearly $5 billion at the worldwide box office.

During a 2024 interview timed to the release of Despicable Me 4, that film’s director, Chris Renaud, told The Hollywood Reporter that the franchise’s team had been exploring new possible installments for the characters.

“There are always conversations like that, and what we can do and where we can go with the characters,” he said at the time. “Nothing specific at the moment, particularly since I just finished this one, but there are always those conversations on, ‘Where else can they go and what changes can we make? How can we keep it exciting and fresh? We’ll see what happens.”

The New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks face off at the 2026 Super Bowl, which can be seen Sunday on NBC and Peacock.
