Far-right provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos has been detained at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Louisiana and is awaiting deportation after allegedly overstaying his visa and remaining in the U.S. illegally.
The 41-year-old former Breitbart tech editor, who parlayed the notoriety of his central role in the alt-right movement into an internship with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and multiple stretches working for Kanye West, was detained by ICE agents Thursday after landing at Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans, where West is set to perform at the Caesars Superdome tonight.
Yiannopoulos lives in the United States, primarily in Los Angeles, but was born in and is a citizen of the U.K. He is currently registered in ICE’s detainee database, but there are scant details about his detention and where he is being held.
On Friday, the Department of Homeland Security posted a statement on X announcing Yiannopoulos’s detention.
“On August 27, ICE arrested Milo Yiannopoulos, an illegal alien from the United Kingdom, at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) in Kenner, Louisiana,” the statement reads. “Yiannopoulos legally entered the country on May 14, 2019, through New York City, New York. He chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation’s laws.”
An immigration judge issued Yiannopoulos a final order of removal on July 22 after he failed to appear for his immigration hearing. He will remain in ICE custody pending removal, DHS said.
With his option to remain stateside gone, it’s unclear what will become of Tarantula, his talent management and strategic consulting firm. Founded in 2023, Tarantula specialized in problematic clients whom others might shy away from; his first two were Azealia Banks and Ariel Pink.
Yiannopoulos and Banks, the rapper behind hit “212” who’s known to speak her mind without holding back, got into a brutal public fight where the result was her exiting the relationship with Tarantula under bitter circumstances. The visciousbess he displayed in that episode may have played a role in his eventual detention: later on Friday, one of his many nemeses took credit for tipping off ICE.
Laura Loomer, the Florida political activist turned White House insider who has maneuvered into President Trump’s inner circle, wrote on X that she reported Yiannopoulos’ immigration status to authorities after he called for her assassination amid their feud.
If Loomer’s claim is true, it’s a slice of revenge served cold. Yiannopoulos had previously published what he said were details of Loomer’s mental health history in an apparent bid to damage her standing with Trump.
The irony that this chapter of Yiannopoulos’ stateside career is ending with him detained by ICE — an agency whose tactics he has praised — was not lost on some online. One X user resurfaced an old post in which Yiannopoulos darkly joked about watching an ICE raid unfold.
