Long before the new year, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey had already emerged as one of the most anticipated movies of 2026. A new trailer, which dropped Dec. 22 and has since been viewed 37 million times, only fueled the fire as fans flocked to see the first extended look at the mythic action epic toplined by Matt Damon as Odysseus.
With a trailer, new stills and Nolan’s first interview about the film out in the universe, some of his stars are more open to answering questions about the secretive project. That includes Mia Goth, who plays Melantho in a star-studded cast that also includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, James Remar, Elliot Page, John Leguizamo, Himesh Patel and more.
The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Goth on the red carpet Saturday at the Palm Springs International Film Awards, where she joined her Frankenstein family to pick up another trophy for their work in Guillermo del Toro’s epic. Though she wasn’t ready to reveal The Odyssey’s plot details, she was keen to discuss how the experienced changed her for good.
“That was one of the greatest experiences of my life. It really was. It was profound,” Goth explained. “I’ve been such a fan of his work for years. And so to have that opportunity and to witness him and how he directs was incredible. I took a lot from that. The trust that he has in actors was enlightening.”
And the actors seemed to return the favor. In a previous interview, Remar told THR, “It’s a very respectful, well-assembled cast. No silliness to speak of. Everyone was focused on the task at hand, because he comes with a vision and every brush stroke of his vision is important. There are no hijinks. No fooling around. Nobody’s asleep. Nobody’s drunk. Nobody’s fucked up, pardon my language. Everyone was very, very concentrated on being the absolute best they could be.”
As for Goth, in addition to awards season obligations for Frankenstein and a summer release of The Odyssey, her future includes a 2027 debut as one of the stars of Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter opposite Ryan Gosling and Amy Adams. She was more tight-lipped about that film, however.
“I really can’t talk much about that at the moment, but I had the most incredible time and I absolutely adore Shawn Levy. I think he’s electric and he’s got such an energy to him. Working with him was some of the most fun I’ve had.”
The Odyssey, shot using IMAX film technology, opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, while Star Wars: Starfighter hits theaters May 28, 2027.
