Megan Thee Stallion lit up the stage as she made her Broadway debut in “Moulin Rouge! The Musical.”
The rapper made history Tuesday night as the first female-identifying performer to play Zidler, previously referred to as Harold Zidler, in the beloved show.
In a fun twist, the show now includes a special curtain call number featuring a medley of Megan’s hits, including “WAP,” “Body” and “Savage.”
Her surprise number had audience members dancing on their feet at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in New York City, per videos shared by Megan after the show.
The three-time Grammy winner, 31, will appear in “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” until May 17.
Her character, Zidler — the flamboyant, charismatic and ambitious owner of the Moulin Rouge — has been played by several stars in the past, including Tituss Burgess, Boy George, Wayne Brady and most recently, “RuPaul’s Drag Race” winner Bob the Drag Queen.
Megan made the exciting announcement last week via Instagram with a carousel of sultry snaps of herself wearing the ring-leader-like costume from the show.
“Broadway debut loading…❣️,” she captioned the upload.
After the Tuesday premiere, the “Cognac Queen” hitmaker took to Instagram, expressing how “grateful” she is to the “incredible cast & crew & everyone who worked so hard to make opening night a success.”
She also shared a video of herself celebrating the show’s premiere at an afterparty with the rest of the cast.
“Stepping onto the Broadway stage and joining the ‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical’ team is an absolute honor. I’ve always believed in pushing myself creatively and theatre is definitely a new opportunity that I’m excited to embrace,” Megan previously said in a statement.
“Broadway demands a different level of discipline, preparation, and storytelling, but I’m up for the challenge and can’t wait for the Hotties to see a new side of me,” she added.
The show’s producer, Carmen Pavlovic, called Megan’s role a “historic” moment for the production after her casting was announced.
“Welcoming Megan Thee Stallion into the ‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical’ community is a thrilling moment for us,” Pavlovic said.
“Megan is a true global superstar. She is one of the most influential artists of her generation and her impact on music and culture is undeniable. This historic casting is a major part of our closing celebrations: our farewell gift to Broadway audiences and one of our biggest announcements in the history of ‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical,’” she added.
