Matthew McConaughey posted a birthday tribute to his mother Mary ‘Kay’ McCabe – nicknamed ‘MaMac’ – who shares his $6 million seven-bedroom mansion in Austin, TX.
The 56-year-old Oscar winner – who boasts 24.7 million social media followers – posted a snap of the pair alongside his 17-year-old son Levi with the caption: ‘Proof that 94 years of joy ages well.’
‘We had about an eight-year period where I had to have short conversations with her on our Sunday phone calls because she was sharing a lot of that information,’ McConaughey told People last September.
‘I’d tell her something on Sunday between son and mom, and Tuesday I’d read about it in the news or see it in the local paper. She couldn’t help herself.’
The bitter ‘hiatus’ ended once the Poems & Prayers author ‘got stable enough with my own position and fame’ and now allows her to ‘tell all the raunchiest things’ she wants on red carpets.

Kay – a former author and kindergarten teacher – famously married and divorced McConaughey’s father James three times before their marriage ended with his 1992 death at age 62 from a heart attack after sex with her.
Back in 2020, the Pantalones Organic Tequila co-founder told ET that he and his The Gentlemen castmate Hugh Grant were conspiring to set up McConaughey’s mother with his then 91-year-old father on a blind date.
The two-time Emmy nominee pulled strings to get director Paul Greengrass to cast the widow as his character’s mother Sherry as well as his son Levi as his character’s son in Apple TV+ survival thriller The Lost Bus last year.
‘I wanted to be in acting as long as I can remember,’ Kay said.
On Sunday, McConaughey and his wife of 13 years, Women of Today founder Camila Alves, celebrated the sweet 16th birthday of their daughter Vida.
’16 years old today!’ the Brazilian 42-year-old gushed on Instagram.
‘The kindest heart… When a wild bird lets you hold him it says it all. May that kindness still guide the way.’
The Golden Globe winner and Camila – who originally met at Hollywood hotspot Hyde in 2006 – are also proud parents of 13-year-old son Livingston.
