Erik Per Sullivan was photographed in public for the first time in nearly two decades.
The “Malcolm in the Middle” actor, who played Dewey on the sitcom from 2000 to 2006, was snapped Wednesday in Boston running errands.
The former child star, now 33, looked cozy yet professional in a gray sweater atop a white collared shirt, which he paired with dark slacks and brown boots.
Per Sullivan carried two grocery bags as he descended some steps.
He was later seen more bundled — adding a brown coat and gray newsboy cap to his ensemble — as he carried a to-go coffee cup in his hand.
After “Malcolm” ended, Per Sullivan starred in the 2007 dramedy “Mo.”
In February of that year, he attended Boston’s Oscar Night America, which marked his last public sighting.
The then-15-year-old with long-ish wispy hair stepped out for the event in a classic black tuxedo, which he accessorized with a pink ribbon pin in honor of breast cancer awareness.
His final acting role before taking a step back from Hollywood was in the 2010 teen crime drama “Twelve.”
Per Sullivan’s on-screen mother in “Malcolm,” Jane Kaczmarek, gushed last year that he was doing “very, very well,” noting that he simply “wasn’t interested in acting at all” after the beloved series wrapped.
“We did ‘Malcolm’ for seven years,” Kaczmarek, 69, said in an interview at the Paris Manga & Sci-Fi Show by TGS in April 2024. “He started at [age] 7; he ended at 14.”
She added that Per Sullivan was attending a “very, very, very prestigious American university that he’s asked [his former castmates] to be quiet about, and he loves Charles Dickens. He’s doing graduate work in Victorian literature.”
Kaczmarek said she “admire[d]” her onscreen son’s decision to pursue higher education because “so many people think being in show business is the greatest thing in the world, and it’s not for everybody.”
Per Sullivan will not be participating in Disney+’s four-episode revival of “Malcolm,” which was announced in December 2024 and is expected to air later this year.
