Malayalam actor Akhil Vishwanath, who featured in the 2019 Kerala State Film Award-winning film Chola, passed away on December 11 at the age of 30. The actor was found dead in his bedroom in Kerala. As per a report by Manorama Online, his mother discovered his body hanging in his room while she was leaving for work. His sudden demise has left his family and well-wishers in shock, as he was considered a rising talent. The report also claimed that Akhil was working as a mechanic at a mobile phone shop in Kottali, Kerala. However, for the past few days, he has stopped going to work.
Meanwhile, Akhil’s father, Vishwanathan of Chunkal Chencherivalappil, is undergoing treatment after sustaining serious injuries in a road accident. His father, who was an autorickshaw driver, was badly injured when a car hit his scooter three months ago. Since then, he has been bedridden.
Celebrities mourn loss
Several stars from the industry have been mourning the death of Akhil Vishwanath. Film worker Manoj Kumar, who wrote, “What have you done, Akhil?” Chola director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan wrote on Facebook, “The news that Akhil committed suicide is heartbreaking. He came to cinema from the pit of poverty. A single movie called Chola was enough for him to step in Malayalam cinema as an actor. It just didn’t happen. After that movie was confined, the future hopes of many people including that young man who proved their talent through that movie were in darkness.”
The long post reads, “I can’t believe Akhil committed suicide. Knows that he was preparing to act in a movie soon. that was to start recently. Feeling sad Akhil. I don’t know what was the cause of this untimely death. But those who have darkened the futures of men, including you, have a part in your blood. May your soul rest in peace. May your smile full of love touch me again.”
His Chola costar Joju George also expressed the grief of losing Akhi. He wrote, “Rest In Peace Akhil.”
Akhil Vishwanath is known for his work in projects like Chola (2019), Operation Java (2021), Shadow of Water (2019) and Maangandi (2009). Chola gave the actor a lot of recognition. The movie also features Nimisha Sajayan, Joju George, Jolly Chirayath, Athul Suresh, Dileep Daz and Janardanan in key roles. The 2019 movie was a critically acclaimed film, which also received a lot of appreciation from the audience.
